Not a 10-0-0 season but 6-2-2 is still good enough for 2nd
At the first of the season (the last post here), I suggested that the caliber of team that we have could go 10-0-0 on the season. While our 6-2-2 record isn't quite perfect, it's still a great finish in a tightly contested upper grouping in B-Division for the Northern Mid-Cities Soccer League. Last night's finale for two top rated teams shows just how much depth and strength this team really has.
Congratulations on such a strong finish to the season. I had been looking forward with much anticipation to the final game knowing it could determine the top placing of the what I thought early on to be the 1st and 2nd teams. While the season lingered on and we took a couple of late hits (no thanks to the T-Rexes), the drama and anticipation around last night's game increased. What I didn't tell the boys in the pre-game pep talk was that a loss or tie last night would have blocked our top 3 finish. Only a win would advance us into 1st with a likely 2nd place finish pending the CSA Bulldogs final two games (likely wins against the bottom of the division teams). We focused on playing our game last night, being aggressive and having fun. I think they definitetly achieved that final item.
It's going to be another couple of weeks before we have trophies ready from the association which gives us some time to think about a celebration. Please send any suggestions for parties across to myself or Lisa and we'll take all suggestions under advisement.
Thanks again for another exciting and dramatic end to a wonderful season. It's truly been my pleasure to coach this team and moments as sweet as last night's finish definitely add luster to the memories for this team.
